MEET OUR SENIOR PASTOR

DR. DAVID A. SOBREPEÑA
President / Founder of Word of Hope Christian Ministries Foundation, INC.

Rev. Dr. David A. Sobrepeña is a man of great vision whose faith has touched and influenced many people’s lives. He is a caring shepherd of the congregation at Word of Hope Christian Church.  He is a Pastor’s Pastor. Mentor.  Evangelist.  A dynamic and highly-motivated person, with whom God is using mightily in spreading the Good News of salvation not only in the Philippines but also in many countries around the world.  He has widely traveled in the Middle East, North America, the Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the African countries to encourage the brethren and to preach a message of hope in these last days before the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.  He is a well-known  speaker for Pastors and leadership conferences, mission’s conventions, and evangelistic crusades.

He has pastored Christian churches in Honolulu, Hawaii, in Seattle, Washington, and in Dallas, Texas, USA.  Prior to his return to the Philippines, he worked in the business world, as a Financial Consultant of one of the largest Wall Street firms in the U.S.

In August 1988, in response to a vision and a call from the Lord to start a ministry in his homeland, he planted a church with three people, which would become WORD OF HOPE CHRISTIAN CHURCH.  Strategically located at 1103 EDSA, Quezon City, (just across SM City Mall),  it has become an important landmark in the metropolis.  Under his leadership, the church has experienced tremendous growth.  Today, Word of Hope holds the distinction as one of the largest born-again Christian churches in the country.  It has over 3,000 cell groups, and 11 satellites (sites)  in Metro Manila, and has planted numerous churches across the country.

He serves as the National Director of EQUIP Philippines, an organization founded by Dr. John C. Maxwell, providing leadership training worldwide to Church as well as lay leadership, and has trained more than 300,000 Christian leaders in the Philippines. He is also a member of the leadership team of the 2nd Billion Network, whose vision is to win 1 billion people to Christ and to plant 5 million churches worldwide.   He has served in the national leadership of the Philippine General Council of the Assemblies of God for many years as Assistant General Superintendent, and as General Superintendent for a total of 15 years.  Likewise, he is Co-Chairman of Transformation Philippines, a non-stock, non-profit, non-sectarian organization composed of businessmen, justices, professionals, military officers and educators whose advocacy is the propagation of moral values formation among our people, promotion of democratic principles, and above all, righteous governance.  “Righteousness exalts a nation” (Prov. 14:34).    He also served as Chairman of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches (PCEC), and Asia Pacific Theological Seminary (APTS), and member of the Board of the Philippine Bible Society.

In 1994, he founded Hope Christian Academy (HCA), a Christian institution  accredited with the Department of Education that provides kindergarten, elementary and high school education.  Plans are made for the opening of a Christian Evangelical University in the future.

To expand the Lord’s ministry of compassion, he and his wife Lydia founded Hope General Hospital in 2002. It provides comprehensive medical/hospital services for pastors and their families as well as the indigents in Metro Manila.

As part of the need to enlarge the Ministry Campus, Word of Hope embarked on a new building project in 2003.  Called the Education Center, it provides classroom spaces for HCA and Hope Leadership Institute (HLI).  The new building houses a new auditorium which has enlarged the Church auditorium to accommodate over 6,000 people.

To usher in the new decade, Pastor Dave is casting visions and goals for Word of Hope to accomplish this year 2010: To wit

  1. Open 1, 000 new cell groups
  2. Recruit 1, 000 new volunteers, workers and leaders by training 500 to 750 new leaders through Christian Growth Studies (CGS), cell groups and Hope Leadership Institute (HLI)
  3. Plant and establish 15 new satellite churches (5 in Metro Manila and 10 in the provinces)
  4. Send and support Filipino missionaries in Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, East Timor, etc
  5. Launch our new leadership center to train church leaders, church planters and missionaries
  6. Finish the gymnasium on the 8th floor of Grace building
  7. Start building project in Novaliches
  8. Mobilize and intensify our outreach evangelism teams to win 10, 000 people to Christ; Satellite churches to grow by 50% and for WOH to be a church of 100,000 by 2015.

With the full support of the brethren, he sees greater things to happen at Word of Hope! To God be the glory!
